ART PORTFOLIO
"Atom, an exploratory series” is an overlap of design and chemistry. The series is an exaggerated portrayal of various atoms in their anatomy and characteristics. The designs revolve around the principles of symmetry, balance, unity and rhythm.
'Purple Repulsion'
'Helium'
"Facade", a design GJ created during the pandemic, juxtaposes the organic forms of the natural landscape against rigid man-made architecture. Reminiscent of sashaying reflections seen on the surfaces of large city buildings, ‘Facade’ is a familiar image glorified with unexpected colours and intricate patterns.
Inspired by Robert Frost’s poem by the same name, “Fire and Ice,”
is a design depicting the contrast between the elemental forces of fire and ice—of passion and hatred. Both are believed to be destructive when one succumbs to their hold. In his poem, Frost muses over whether the world will be destroyed by human desires or hatred. This work by GJ visualizes that debate.

here's a few 'Bougie Blooms' for you.
“Bubble Tile” stays true to GJ's concern for juxtaposed surfaces. We understand materials best in contrast with one another. Here, the smoothness of a bubble is highlighted against flat, tiled, geographical patterns.
Oh, these won’t bite.
my perpetual awe for these absolutely stunning, mysterious (and often deadly) works of nature finally got me to illustrate a few. Laying some out here to crawl up your screens.

“Ajna”—also known as the Third-Eye Chakra--
is a representation of mystical intuition and insight.
is a representation of mystical intuition and insight.
The design depicts inner vision and enlightenment beyond what the physical eyes can see. Combining Hindu religious beliefs with scientific theory, this piece also illustrates the deity Ardhanarishvara, a hermaphrodite form of Shiva-Shakti; who is observed as the creator in Hindu culture.
Drawing inspiration from the legend of “Shambhala”.
The mythological relevance of this place originates with a prophecy in Vishnu Purana, celebrated across Tibetan Buddhism, the Bon scriptures, etc.
From a certain infamous European political party to monks and just about everyone in between, have searched the world for centuries if not millennia.
The hidden city of Shambhala, isn’t very hidden. From ancient religious texts to modern day movies and video games, the tales and legends about a city called Shambhala have never been as difficult to come by as the city itself. Supposedly hidden away somewhere in the Himalayas, it has attracted its fair share of explorers over time, searching for it under different names, such as Agartha, Shangrila, Belovoyed, Olmo-lung-ring and the likes. Conceptually, it’s a kingdom ‘we live out of’ through our compassion and kindness. It’d be found not as an earthly city or somewhere in the fourth dimension, but within.

"The Koi", a vivid and intricately patterned cold water fish, a renowned symbol in East Asian, particularly the Japanese folklore. Embodying a harmony between opposites, this piece draws upon a few of the many metaphors a Koi streams in; duality of life, swimming against the current, patience and perseverance. Often portrayed in the yin and yang configuration, this abstraction of the koi highlights the principle of balance.
“The Urban, fancy but frosty: a series,” a scene of utopian architecture. Inspired by the fast-paced and hostile urban lifestyle, the design plays with temperature associations through pattern and scale.
'Concrete jungle'
'The Urban', the fast paced living which often paints a ‘fancy’ picture that dominates the lifestyle of a majority, albeit it is quite frosty - cold.
'A binary sunset.'
'The first light.'
'Afterglow : 2.25 kelvins - a series.'
Outer space has been blowing my mind every. single. day. for as long as I can remember. This illustration series that I call ‘after glow : 2.25 kelvins’ is one of such triggers. It depicts the story of the first light in the universe, almost 250-300 million years after the ‘Big Bang’. And the afterglow that followed - stretched and redshifted into nothingness, still surrounds us.
Space, it’s almost empty and yet it’s not.
The silence so quiet that it’s deafening.
So alive yet so still. Ginormous and scary. Mesmerising and enigmatic. It remains unfathomable; the mystery so beautiful, it remains beyond what words could ever describe and art could ever portray. Beyond the realms of physics and philosophy. Serving a breathtakingly gorgeous sky every night for billions to fall in love under; no dusk, no dawn ever the same and yet has been the only constant since time immemorial.

"Ruby” is a fragile, translucent, and sensitive form, which balances upon its own reflection. Alternatively, it is edgy, sharp, and ambitious. The use of juxtaposed aesthetics evokes the image of sublime otherworldly wings. Cruel and beautiful.
'Metrics', a study.
'Terrains and topography', a study.
'no armour'
This piece in red and white is an attempt at a portrayal of some dreadful global updates. Updates in the recent weeks, majority triggered by hate. Mass shooting and gun violence top the list here. In July, the firearm crime capital of the world, the USA recorded 309 mass shootings only halfway through 2022 alone.
It makes me restless when I think of how tragedies have always eventually ended up becoming statistical data, and how our age old nemesis - the hate crime epidemic is unusually a regular on the daily news that we seldom bat an eye upon glancing over it.
‘Hate’ is often dubbed for being ‘too strong a word’ and too intense an emotion. Is that why in the face of hate we drop our love guns, discard our compassion armour that easy and let hate whip us as we put up white flags? and continue to let it overpower us, get the better of us. Why?
no armour, no defence, a lost battle.
